Taylor

Taylor is participating in a district pilot program for retaining students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. It is a "virtual schooling" program that allows students, as necessary, to participate in class activities from a remote location via computer and Internet access.

Taylor takes advantage of the program when she is most vulnerable to becoming overstimulated, and least able to control her behavior.

She uses a Web camera, microphone, and speakers to have full access to the class, in real-time, from a separate location in the school building.

Taylor's group is studying air and water quality issues of the Blue Mountains. She made contact with two members of a community water monitoring program in the region, and arranged for a live Web conference today.

The members of Taylor's group join the Web conference from the classroom. Together, Taylor and her peers virtually interact as they gain a first-hand account of a local grassroots effort to maintain healthy waterways.
